Grasp the key to innovation and unlock new horizons for "Made in China"

Faced with fierce competition and the pressure of transformation, "Made in China" has ushered in a new era of development and gained new momentum for transformation and upgrading by holding the key to innovation and opening up new practices in supply-side structural reform.

With the accelerated transformation of new technologies and achievements, and the continuous emergence of new models and business formats, added value and voice are constantly improving. Innovation is powerfully leading the "Made in China" ship to sail forward.

Innovation: Creating a New Calling Card for "Made in China"

On April 3, local time, at Boston City Hall Plaza, a Boston Orange Line subway train manufactured by CRRC attracted a large number of people. This was the first time "CRRC manufacturing" met its future passengers.

From the leveling of bogies and the assembly of gear screws, to breakthroughs in cold and heat-resistant technologies and system integration control, the innovation of a train is countless. Liu Hualong, chairman of CRRC, said that China's rail transit has achieved the overall export of industrial chains such as traction and ventilation, becoming a "frequent visitor" in the international market with its high quality and technology. In the past six months, CRRC has successively won orders for 184 subway trains in Boston and Los Angeles.

Taking rail transit as an example, the "Made in China" of the new era is gradually transforming from low value-added processing and manufacturing to "China's creation" that pays more attention to high technology, high quality, and high quality. Shenzhou spacecraft, Tianhe computer, Beidou navigation... these loud Chinese brands are a testament to the independent innovation of "Made in China", and also shining "Chinese business cards" in the international market.

It is worth mentioning that in recent years, the innovation of "Made in China" in cutting-edge fields has continued to accelerate, with a number of achievements filling domestic gaps, occupying a place in the international arena, or leading new industries and opening up emerging markets.

Huawei has taken the lead in the world in launching high-temperature, long-life graphene-based lithium-ion batteries, which can increase the upper limit of lithium-ion battery operating temperature by 10℃ and extend the service life to twice; "Sunway TaihuLight", using domestic CPUs, has become the world's first supercomputer with a computing speed exceeding one quadrillion operations per second; new technological products such as quantum dot TVs and OLED TVs are emerging rapidly...

According to MIIT data, China has made important progress in the frontier research of transparent display technology, lithium-ion batteries, superconducting materials and other fields, and is in a leading position internationally.

"Relying on technological drive, China's manufacturing industry is striving to seize opportunities, exploring a wider and broader path of development, bringing about tremendous changes." said Miao Wei, Minister of Industry and Information Technology.

Innovation: Injecting New Momentum into Transformation and Upgrading

Through innovation in product design, technical solutions, and material applications, Goertek Inc. and its partners have successfully designed virtual reality head-mounted display devices with a better wearing experience. The product is expected to be launched by the end of this year.

As a manufacturing enterprise grown in China, Goertek has become an important supplier to internationally renowned enterprises such as Samsung and Sony in the past 10 years, relying on its manufacturing advantages in micro-acoustic modules and sensors.

"Although being a supplier is not bad, development is always not completely in our own hands." Ji Yong, vice president of Goertek, said that Goertek will focus on virtual reality, artificial intelligence and other fields to accelerate transformation and innovation.

The dividends of "latecomer advantages" and "comparative advantages" are gradually exhausted. How to find new impetus; overcapacity and high costs, how to improve efficiency and value; regional and inter-industry development imbalances, how to coordinate development... The problems facing "Made in China" need to be solved through innovation.

"To achieve transformation and upgrading, the key lies in the existing stock. It is necessary to introduce innovative thinking into every link of all industries and sectors to effectively promote quality improvement and efficiency enhancement." said Li Beiguang, deputy director of the Planning Department of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

What can you do in 2 seconds? At Qingdao Hongling Group, using the world's advanced 3D body measuring instrument, this "blink of an eye" can obtain 22 data from 19 parts of the customer, and automatically complete the body measurement of clothing. By reshaping the industrial production process with Internet thinking, Hongling not only solved the timeliness of body measurement, but also realized personalized production on the assembly line, expanding new space.

"Trying Internet industry, initially to solve inventory, after a few years, we found that this is a methodology, subverting the traditional logic of the industry." said Zhang Daili, chairman of Hongling Group.

Not only Hongling has changed. Since the release of "Made in China 2025", the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has identified 109 pilot demonstration projects for intelligent manufacturing. The production efficiency of these projects has increased by an average of more than 30%, and the operating costs have decreased by an average of more than 20%.

In addition to the internal structural adjustment of the industry, inter-regional industrial acceptance is also more balanced and targeted.

Shenzhen's drones, Zhuzhou's "Power Valley", Wuhan's "Optics Valley", Shenyang's robots... In recent years, some domestic regions have based on their existing industrial advantages, actively absorbed and transplanted high-end production factors and advanced sharing technologies, achieving differentiated development among regions and outlining a "new map" of the manufacturing industry.

"Innovation should also use appropriate resources in appropriate places to achieve precise efforts. This is also the essence of supply-side structural reform." Miao Wei said that the emergence of the new manufacturing map has not only driven the transformation and upgrading of local industries, but also enhanced confidence in achieving "overtaking on a curve".

  Innovation: Maintaining Vitality with Reform

Standing at the forefront of a new round of technological revolution and industrial transformation, "Made in China" needs more than ever to rely on major innovations to gain the upper hand. This is both an opportunity that cannot be missed and a challenge that cannot be lost. It is urgent to ignite the engine of innovation with reform, eliminate institutional and mechanism obstacles that hinder innovation, and release more development space.

On the one hand, we should continue to promote the transformation of government functions, remove "roadblocks", and open up avenues for innovation and entrepreneurship.

From resolutely promoting streamlining administration and delegating power, to vigorously promoting mass entrepreneurship and innovation, to speeding up and reducing fees in the telecommunications field, government departments have further eliminated institutional and mechanism problems, stimulating market vitality and development potential. Last year, an average of 15,100 new enterprises were registered nationwide every day, forming a climax since the reform of the business system.

However, "we are moving forward, and others are also making progress". Reform cannot stop, and we must continue to push it forward to stimulate the vitality of every enterprise and every individual, and win time and space for development.

On the other hand, we should also create a more suitable and tolerant institutional environment, lay down "fast lanes", break down the "glass walls" of cost transformation, break down institutional barriers to talent flow, and allow innovative factors to become fully active.

Miao Wei said that the MIIT is promoting the construction of manufacturing innovation centers, building innovation platforms in some important fields, integrating forces for systematic research and development, and promoting the transformation of more scientific research achievements into productive forces. Currently, a power battery innovation center has been established, and about 15 national-level innovation centers will be established by 2020.

The industrialization of innovative achievements also faces challenges. This requires a sound mechanism for tolerating failures in innovation. In areas such as major equipment and new materials, China has also launched pilot insurance compensation mechanisms for market applications, encouraging users to try new technologies and equipment. Further policy improvements will be made to expand the effectiveness of their use.

It can be seen that measures related to innovation-driven development are becoming increasingly sophisticated, and a favorable environment where the whole society values and yearns for innovation is taking shape. "In the future, we will further strengthen the integration of science and technology with the economy, and through continuous reform, push "Made in China" to a new level." Miao Wei said.
